Tim Pawlenty in Hot Water with ABC Sports: ?Miracle On Ice? Ad

Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty, a former high school hockey standout, has a new 30-second ad that showcases legendary video from the 1980 ‘Miracle on Ice’ Olympic hockey team.� ABC Sport and ESPN are crying foul over the unauthorized use of the footage. The ad, uploaded to YouTube yesterday by the Pawlenty campaign, is titled ‘The American Comeback.’ The former governor of Minnesota was one of the first candidates to enter the race but continues to trail the competition, placing sixth in the Des Moines Register poll in late June. Despite the fact that ABC Sports wants Pawlenty to dump the new ad, campaign spokesman Alex Conant said: “We respect ABC’s concern and look forward to responding to their inquiry.� The footage was carefully reviewed for legal compliance.” No cease-and-desist letter has yet been issued by ABC Sports or ESPN.
