Jeret Peterson Suicide: Olympic Skier Shot Himself
Jeret Peterson 1981-2011 Jeret “Speedy” Peterson, three-time Olympian who won a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, was found dead in Lambs Canyon, Utah on July 25, 2011. The cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake, who responded to the 911 call from Peterson. The 29-year-old, who has battled alcoholism and depression all of his adult life, told the emergency dispatcher that he was going to take his own life.� Responding officers found him deceased at 9:30 p.m. and discovered a suicide note in his car. Peterson got the name “Speedy” at a summer ski camp in Lake Placid, New York in the mid-90′s because his coaches thought he looked like “Speed Racer,” the cartoon character. The athlete has seen his share of tragedy and sorrow.� He was sexually abused as a child, his sister was killed by a drunk driver in 1987 and a close friend committed suicide in front of Peterson in 2005, by shooting himself in the head. The former Olympian was arrested in Hailey, Idaho early Friday, July 22, 2011 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.� [...]

Comic-Con 2011: Who Else Auditioned to Play Peter on 'Fringe'? (VIDEO)

Don't you just love hearing stories about the people who were almost cast for huge movie and TV roles? You know like Dana Delany was almost Carrie Bradshaw on 'Sex and the City,' and Matthew Broderick was nearly known as 'Family Ties'' Alex P. Keaton instead of Michael J. Fox.Well, here's one I hadn't heard: There were about 12 other big names in line to play Peter Bishop on 'Fringe,' as Fox tried to "recast Peter" with Joshua Jackson M.I.A.
Don't believe me? Just take a look at this hysterical video they showed today at Comic-Con, featuring a few former 'Lost' stars (and the 'Lost' boss), a puppet-toting Paul Scheer, someone in our favorite 'Community' (nice stache, Pudi) and, of course, J.J. Abrams regular Greg Grunberg.
Also no spoof video about Jackson would be complete without some 'Dawson's Creek' jokes.
But be sure to watch until the very end to see a super 'Fringe' teaser with a very Observer-like Jackson robotically asking for direction. Spooky!

Christopher Schwarzenegger, the 13-year-old son of estranged power couple Maria Shriver and former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, was seriously injured on Sunday in a boogie boarding accident in Malibu. Tim Pawlenty in Hot Water with ABC Sports: ?Miracle On Ice? Ad
Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty, a former high school hockey standout, has a new 30-second ad that showcases legendary video from the 1980 ‘Miracle on Ice’ Olympic hockey team.� ABC Sport and ESPN are crying foul over the unauthorized use of the footage. The ad, uploaded to YouTube yesterday by the Pawlenty campaign, is titled ‘The American Comeback.’ The former governor of Minnesota was one of the first candidates to enter the race but continues to trail the competition, placing sixth in the Des Moines Register poll in late June. Despite the fact that ABC Sports wants Pawlenty to dump the new ad, campaign spokesman Alex Conant said: “We respect ABC’s concern and look forward to responding to their inquiry.� The footage was carefully reviewed for legal compliance.” No cease-and-desist letter has yet been issued by ABC Sports or ESPN. Aidan Quinn Didn't Want to Move to L.A. for 'Prime Suspect' (VIDEO)

The NBC adaptation of 'Prime Suspect' exchanges Scotland Yard for the NYPD's homicide squad, and Helen Mirren for Maria Bello. But if it was going to make Aidan Quinn exchange New York for Los Angeles, he wasn't going to do it, he said Thursday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC). The show is set in New York, where Quinn lives, and most of the pilot was filmed there, but the series will film in Los Angeles.That was almost a deal-breaker for Quinn, who has a family back East. "It involved moving to L.A., and I've lived in New York, and I said, 'No, I can't,'" he said. The producers told him to just read his part, the lieutenant Quinn described as "the head of the dog and pony show," and that hooked him. Then he read the whole script, and said, "This is really good."

Barry Manilow has racked up dozens of recognizable hits over his 40-plus-year career in the music business. He wrote the classic songs 'Copacabana (At the Copa),' 'Mandy,' and 'Can't Smile Without You.' Friday on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC), host Billy Bush even told Manilow that 'Mandy' helped him seal the deal with his wife.But many might not realize Manilow also wrote some instantly recognizable jingles, including 'Like A Good Neighbor' for State Farm and 'Stuck on Band-Aid.' "Those are the two they keep playing 30 years later," he said. For writing those jingles, he was paid the grand sum of $500 each. "I was very happy to get that five hundred dollars," he said. "Nobody could have predicted that it was going to last that long."
They also discussed fashion, showing one of Manilow's more outrageous stage outfits. "It follows me like a bad smell, that shirt," he said. At least he still has his own hair and he's skinny because he doesn't "like eating." Someone tell him he can afford a sandwich now.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are getting a divorce.The TV power couple released the following statement to People:
"We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters.
"It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
The couple has been married for seven years and recently collaborated on Latin American talent show, 'Q'Viva: The Chosen.'
Lopez joined 'American Idol' last season and has yet to reveal her plans for next season. Anthony recently joined the cast of TNT's 'Hawthorne.'

Rupert Grint Previews Dark 'Harry Potter' Finale (VIDEO)

If you've already read the 'Harry Potter' books, you know there are some surprises in store for the final installment of the film version, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2,' which opens Friday. Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, was on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) Monday to talk about how the franchise ends, and what the cast's future might hold.Hoda Kotb pointed out that 'Deathly Hallows -- Part 2' has more action and is darker than previous films. "This is kind of the war now," said Grint. "This is a war film. We become soldiers, and characters naturally don't make it to the end." While he confirmd that Ron makes it, he wouldn't say if Hermione lives, and couldn't hold back a wry smirk when asked, much to Kathie Lee and Hoda's dismay. We're guessing the gals haven't read the books.
