These days Ken Jeong gets laughs as a comic actor, and occasionally by dancing, as he did Wednesday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), strutting his stuff to Maroon 5's 'Moves Like Jagger.' But that wasn't always the case: Jeong's original career path doctor. But he wanted to be in show business so badly that he started doing stand-up comedy and improv while completing his residency in internal medicine."And your parents were understandably devastated," said Kelly Ripa. "Yes," replied Jeong, "they are still in therapy getting over it right now. But now they get those thirty dollar checks every week, you know what I'm sayin', yo!"
Jeong used to include some medical material in his act, and said he surprised some on the 'Hangover' set with his knowledge, slipping out of character to give specific, detailed instructions to one of Ed Helms's sick friends over the phone. "Jaws dropped," said Jeong. But he went back into his goofy character voice, just to reassure everyone his focus was in the right place.
