'The Sing Off' Ratings Hit a High Note: What's Different This Year?

When 'The Sing Off' debuted on NBC last year, it didn't make a big splash. It wasn't record-breaking television, just a fun little talent show that a fair amount of people enjoyed. It filled the dreaded pre-holidays programming lull. It gave Nick Lachey a job.

But things were different when the a cappella singing competition returned for round two. The show got nearly 2 million more viewers during last Monday's premiere than season 1's debut episode, and last night gained an impressive 18 percent from that number for an all-time ratings high (3.3 in the 18-49 demo, 9.4 million viewers).

So, what's different this year?
